API 653
This standard applies to welded or riveted field-erected tanks and includes guidance for repair, alteration, or relocation. It requires that your above-ground tanks’ bottom, roof, shell, and foundation show no current or future possibility of failure. Our certified inspector will assess all these areas as well as any attachments or nozzles on the tank.
- Are greater than 75,000 gallons
- Can be greater than 50 feet maximum height
- Can be greater than 30 feet maximum diameter
- Have a manufacturer tank plate
- Has a standard certification plate
- Has no finite limit to capacity
- Has no lifting lugs
- Has a rounded stairway
- Has tank specifications
- Should be owner purchased
- Has maintenance records that should be tracked
API 570
This standard ensures your piping system maintains integrity by meeting regulations. It applies to metallic and fiberglass-reinforced plastic piping systems and covers inspection, rating, repair, and alteration procedures.
Piping:
- Should have external inspections every 5 years and ultrasonic thickness testing every 5 to 10 years depending on the type of service
- Should be inspected after any repair, alteration, or replacement
API 510
This standard applies to pressure vessels that hold gases, vapors, or liquids at high pressures. Certified inspectors assess internal and external walls, welds, coating, and lining.
Pressure vessels:
- Should have external inspections every 5 years and internal inspections every 10 years
- Should be inspected after any repair, alteration, relocation or change of service
STI SP001
This standard applies to field-erected or shop fabricated tanks. Our certified inspectors will assess the tank’s foundation, insulation, connections, gauges, supports, anchors, alarms, vents, and valves. Your inspector will also test the shell, floor, and roof thickness and check spill control systems.
Above ground storage tanks:
- Are built to UL 142, UL 2085 (thermal Insulation), API 12F (production liquids) or API 650, App. J (Oil storage).
- Hold less than or equal to 75,000 gallons
- Are welded in a manufacturing facility
- Store flammable and combustible liquids at atmospheric pressure
- Store other product following proper evaluation
- Are horizontal or vertical, Single or double walled
- May have a concrete exterior
- Can be field-erected depending on size
- Has a manufacturer tank plate
- Has lifting lugs
